This blog is expecially for the Venkatraman Iyer's and Swaminathan Iyer's family members.
Venkatraman Iyer - My paternal Grand father:
Born to Mr. Natesan Iyer and Ms. Mangalam on 1920 at Thenanthotam, Mr. Venkatraman Iyer completed his SSLC at Manarkudi in Finlay school. He had 3 own brothers namely:
Mr. Rajaraman
Mr. Janaki raman
Mr. Jayaram.

After his mother passed away, his father married second time and had 5 kids:
Mr. Nagarajan
Mr. Ramkrishnan
Ms. Sachu
Ms. Thangachi
Ms. Susila
Being the eldest of the family Mr. Venkatraman volunteered to take up the responsibly of the family, not only his own brothers but also his step brothers and step sisters.
After completing his SSLC he went to Chennai to look out for a job in Police dept.
Natesan Iyer not being happy with the decision taken by his son, asked him to come back. Then Mr. Venkatraman stayed at Kozayur for 2 months post which he went to Mangalam (near Papanasam Taluk, Tanjore dist).
At Mangalam he showed his stint in businesses like coal contract, building contract and seasonable businesses. He was also given a huge responsibility to take care of 60 acres of land. He was a very able personality with multi tasking skills which made him to also pursue as an insurance agent.
After his marriage with his aunt’s daughter Ms. Bagirathy (born to Mr. Natraj Iyer and Ms. Sundari : Studied till 8th), who was just 14 years old, in the year 1938 , Mr. Venkatraman had a small misunderstanding with his dad which made him to come out of the house with just 1Rs in hand.
With so much of aggression and passion he succeeded in his career with just 1Rs and bought a rice mill (Named: SRI RAMA RICE MILL), which flourished so well under his capable management.
His confidence and his desire made him successful at his personal and professional front. He could able to settle his step sisters and his brothers to get married to the right partner and guided to lead their independent life.
Even though both my grand parents are not alive (Death dates Death: Venkatraman Iyer Date: 21.10.91 and Ms. Bagirathy Date: 24.9.07), I hope the above narration would have made you to relive their days with a small description about their wonderful and successful past.

About Mr. Swaminathan Iyer ( Gread grand father)
Born to Mr. and Ms. Kuppusamy on 1912 at Ayyampettai, Mr. Swaminathan Iyer completed his SSLC and being an outstanding performer was offered a college seat. The family situation forced him to help his elder brother Mr. Viswanathan Iyer, who was running a hotel and forgo his higher studies.
He was very close to his sister and cared for her the most as she was blind. When he was 18 years
he got married to Ms. Kamalam (born to Ms. And Mr. Nagalakshmi), who was just 13, in 1930.
Since his parents passed away when he was very young, most of the time was spent with his elder brother and he regarded him as his parent. Almost 20 years Swaminathan Iyer gained experience in hotel industry.
Swaminathan and kamalam were happily settled with 5 children:
Ms. Janaki
Mr. Viswanathan
Ms. Raghunathan
Mr. Sathyamurthy
Mr. Shankaran
After Shankaran was born, his elder brother wanted Swaminathan to manage the family on his own and asked him to look out for some other business. Swaminathan also came out with 1Rs to Kumbakonam. He started earning by getting brokerage for selling pulses, dhal and rice. His lady luck struck when he got 5 bags of dhal from one of these commissions. There was no looking back after this. It was only SUCCESS!!
As days passed by he started a firm at karikara street (named: KS SWAMINATHA IYER AND SONS) which was a wholesale merchant shop. He was well settled with own house and also brought up the children well with good education.
Being an active participant in congress and swathanthra movement, he also took part in many social relief activities and sponsored poor children for education and marriage.
All this was possible because he led a very simple and disciplined life.
One more special mention about both Venkatraman and Swaminathan:
During the flood period, both great grand parents used to take part in feeding the affected people in the calamities.
Though they were Samandhis both of them had common interest and were highly successful and popular in the town due to their honesty, sincerity and dedication towards the business as well as to the society.
I feel so proud to be thier great grand daughter and am sure each one of us will consider our self the most luckiest to have had such wonderful great grand parents.

Nagalakshmi(periya paati)
She is the one who will be always remembered by all children of Mr & Ms Swaminatha Iyer's for her uncompromising love and care especially during their joyous, fun filled, mischievous childhood at Ayyampet. She is the first and foremost important person who was very dear to my mother and Ramesh mama. She was extremely possessive about the entire Swaminatha Iyer's family but for outsiders she was terror. She wanted to be only with vasantha paati during last period of life and she passed away the same way she wanted.
I also take this opportunity to thank my mom (Mrs. Lakshmi Swaminathan) who has been an ardent source of encouragement to take up this work.
Request your inputs to make this blog a success!! Watch out for more next week! Till then keep guessing whose turn in our family it would be!
